THE CHANGEOVER - FIFTY YEARS OF DECIMAL CURRENCY - 2016

For 50 years, the Royal Australian Mint has had the privilege of producing Australia's decimal coins. Since the changeover to decimal currency, these coins have been minted with both the traditional designs of Australian flora, fauna, an Indigenous elder and special commemorative themes. These have celebrated the people and events responsible for shaping the nation's history.

On the 50th anniversary of this significant changeover, these six coins celebrate history in a distinctive way. While each coin's reverse features standard decimal designs, their obverse features both the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth lI by lan Rank-Broadley and a representation of some of Australia's pre-decimal coin designs from years past in ascending order.
